Welcome to Pierce's Pocket Pets!!!!

We are proud to announce that Pierce's Pogs has decided to extend into breeding not only the highest quality hedgehogs available but now fancy rats as well.

The story of why and how did we decided to start breeding fancy rats really started with a trip to the local pet store where, against my better judgement, I allowed my daughter to talk me into buying a pet store rat.  We were immediately struck with how smart, adorable and interactive our new little ratty seemed to be.  But we also noticed that she sneezed......she sneezed a lot.

Our $5.00 pet store rat quickly racked up a $200.00 vet bill within days of purchase.  She had a virus, mites, and other parasites.  After daily medication, treatments of revolution and lots of TLC we ended up with an amazing little pet who brings us endless joy.  So much so that our one little rat has now expanded into a family of 7 rats.  Four (including Nora) were rescues but 3 we purchased from a breeder in New Hampshire with the hopes of breeding some top quality, healthy, friendly pets for others to enjoy.

Why would you want a pet rat??

The better question is why wouldn't you?!!!  Rats are an amazing and sadly disparaged pet.  Few people realize that they are very affectionate and really crave the attention of their owners.  They will run to the front of the cage when you enter the room and just beg for you to hold them.  They even give kisses. Rats are also very smart.  They can be taught a very wide variety of tricks much to the amusement of their owners, they can be taught to be shoulder rats (they will sit on your shoulder while you do your work etc), and they can often be litter trained.  Rats small size makes them good pets for those living in apartments or places that dont allow dogs.  They are just as social as dogs but you dont need to take them out for walks, feeding is easy, and they reside in cages.  Rats are also great pets for kids.  They are social, interactive, love to play and are gentle.  They are much better than a guinea pig who runs when you try to pick them up or a hamster that bites all the time.  Rats just want to be with their people.
